“Pack a Gun to Protect Valuables from Airline Theft or Loss”

I had trouble believing this headline when I first read it, but when you read the entire article, it makes a lot of sense.

I hate to give it away, but this makes sense for a starter pistol, like it says, i.e. one that fires only blanks. I don’t think I’d want to carry a real gun around though. I never liked the idea of killing people, even for defending property, though my religion (and most states) doesn’t forbid using one in self-defense even if mostly defending property…

A fine sentiment — until the first time you get into a conflict with someone who doesn’t share your ethical concerns. ;-)

Most house thieves aren’t carrying guns, and if you’re being mugged and are carrying a concealed weapon, you have two problems instead of one.

    Changed.

I’m not arguing that you should carry a gun — it would certainly make for a politer society if nearly anyone could be carrying a concealed weapon, but it greatly magnifies the damage that unbalanced people can do. I’m just saying that, in general, avoiding weapons leaves you at a disadvantage when dealing with someone who doesn’t.
